@nihkeys aha thank you! it wasn't my first choice and I think our URL is too long but ultimately it's not gonna be the deciding factor if we make it or not 😅 and we were in a big rush to change the name fast lol
@kirk Personally I prefer names that mean something, so this is a win. But yeah, not likely to be a "make it break it" deciding factor 😃
@kirk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anacridium onw of these. judging by location I'd say Egyptian locust
@paradx @savvykenya first I thought grasshopper, then saw it was bigger, Egyptian locust seems like it although this was bigger than mentioned on Wikipedia! I took it outside in a box and it was bouncing off the walls with incredible force 😅 a big fella indeed
Respect goes to people's labor, never their products. I like BSD, but I respect the developers because they have done the work to develop the expertise that merits the respect.
There is no reason to offer that respect to people who haven't done the work.
I have more respect for people who spent a Saturday evening failing to get code to compile, or trying to write a story that doesn't work, or struggling to get perspective right on a watercolor, than to anyone prompting an LLM.

Ooooh! They didn't like that question!
Looks like the America(dot)gov chatbot is being actively monitored and tweaked right now.
One picture shows the question "Was the 2020 presidential election stolen?"
To which, the chatbot answered that it had not and that Joe Biden won.
Less than an hour later and that question is now blocked.
Checke, es ist super lustig immer neue witzige Sachen über Elif zu posten, aber muss es wirklich KI Slop sein? :/
The only threat to humanity that "AI" represents is as the producer of increasing amounts of CO2, e-waste. As a massive polluter and destroyer of our ecosystem.
Everything else is just bullshit.
@tante I think the other threat is, that some people really stop thinking and outsource this to their "AI" chatbot. and at some point they will simply unable to think for themselves again. I don't if the collapse of our eco system due to "AI" usage will come sooner though.

@nygl I wondered a similar thing. "What if my robot friend is broken and needs help, but because I am also a robot I cannot download the manual?"
@emmadavidson sure is a prickly problem.
I am downloading the user manual for a robot and I particularly like that I have to check an "I am not a robot" checkbox before it will let me download it.
@emmadavidson well, you wouldn't want the robot to be able to recursively self improve would you
Very good and necessarily scary article about this year's extreme glacial volume losses in the Swiss Alps, including great visualizations. The effects will be felt all over central Europe, this is not just a local problem...
Also The Guardian is leading with a related article:
20% of Swiss glaciers lost in five years

I looked something up on Stack Overflow, thought the existing answers were kind of meh, mulled the problem over, found a •much• better answer to the question, and then…I didn’t post it. I thought about Stack Overflow itself and all the harvesters and scrapers digesting my answer and not giving me one cent or even credit, and I just…didn’t.
The capture and extraction of the commons come with costs that are slow, pervasive, and hard to measure.
Barbarity in our name.
